Manual for adults delivering the Pilatecise Programme = what you get!

Pilatecise integrates Pilates-inspired movements with storytelling to create a unique and fun approach to children's fitness and holistic well-being. It also supports a school's curriculum and national health guidelines.

The Pilatecise Programme

Scheme of Work: 7x sessions per chapter (includes a mini show) + 2x big show rehearsals and 1x BIG Show = 80 sessions, but you can do as little or as much as you want.

National Physical Activity Guidelines

How Pilatecise supports the guidelines from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and our International Chief Medical Officers reports, which are widely endorsed by major countries.

Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle

Here, we highlight the importance of children’s well-being, balanced nutrition, hydration, play, sleep, and emotional support as we look at the corner stones of promoting a healthy lifestyle for young children.

Pilatecise enhances children's wellbeing through fun, confidence, and competence, to promote lifelong physical activity and overall health.

Pilatecise Session Guide (PSG) - Leading a Children’s Activity Sessio

Key considerations for engaging in physical activity with children (this section also supports the learning criteria for L2 Fitness Teachers working with children qualification). We discuss insurance, safety, risk assessments, pre-screening forms, the duty of care, growth spurts, the scope of children, general health conditions, that kindness is key, and more.

The Pilates in Pilatecise

Joseph Pilates, the founder of the Pilates method, emphasised a holistic health approach. Pilatecise which is for children, aligns with global activity guidelines - as we include all elements of fitness and fun whilst focusing on mindful movement.

Those not trained as Pilates Teachers can still use our Pilates-inspired approach when teaching and leading a Pilatecise session. Of course, a qualified Pilates teacher can bring in additional layers of Pilates to benefit each child. A qualified children’s fitness instructor can bring in additional layers of cardio fitness to benefit each child. A qualified educational teacher can bring in additional layers of cross-curriculum work to benefit each child. A parent can bring in additional layers specific to their child and nurture their wellbeing to benefit their own child.

Pilatecise Champion

The children participating in the Pilatecise programme are called Pilatecise Champions, and this links to our reward scheme associated with the programme.

Ownership Day

This ties to our ‘Pilatecise Champions’ concept and offers rewards, like rosettes and stickers, embracing personal goals, positive habits and self-esteem. Ownership Day is the day they bring all their hard work together.

Pilatecise Helps with Reading & Comprehension

Pilatecise integrates reading with physical activity for better comprehension. It's not just knowing the words but also really understanding what the story is about and being able to talk about its components and then act it out. This really helps with the mind-body aspect of Pilates, too. The Pilatecise story plants seeds of wellness for adults to help grow and nurture.

Pilatecise Helps with Handwriting

Pilatecise contributes to better handwriting by boosting core strength, posture, and fine motor skills, all crucial for a child's physical development. Initially, children develop gross motor skills, followed by refining fine motor skills. The Pilatecise manual provides worksheets that reinforce Pilatecise principles and aid in fine motor skill advancement.

Pilatecise Superpowers – AKA The Pilates Principles

Pilatecise focuses on seven key superpowers: Alignment, Breath, Centring, Concentration, Control, Precision, and Flow. We even have a Pilatecise Secret Code to help us remember these as we unite them for effective movement and goal achievement. Within the Pilatecise story, each superpower has a character, animal guide, and colour linked to its rich tapestry.

The ABC’s

Here we help each Pilatecise Session Guide, focus on the fundamentals of good movements and take a deeper dive into alignment, breath and centring.

Start Positions

Starting positions are the foundation for effective movement. By beginning correctly, we set ourselves up for success. Here, we explore the six foundational start positions from which all our movements can evolve.

Pilatecise Energy Wheels

The colour associated with each Pilatecise superpower helps us tap into our inner energy wheels or chakras, acting as gateways to boost our mind-body connection and mindfulness. It's about experiencing a deeper connection with oneself, fostering calmness, and promoting self-care. We encourage children to explore their senses to discover their unique superpowers. Additionally, each energy wheel corresponds to a specific sound frequency, aligning with Pilatecise characters and animal guides, offering children a chance to delve into sound and music exploration.

Pilatecise Champion Rosettes x11

You will find a Pilatecise Rosette for each chapter. At the beginning of each chapter, you can give a child a rosette. Each rosette features 7 blank stars. Children can fill in a star for each Pilatecise Physical Activity Session they complete for that chapter. This serves as a reward for their efforts and provides a tangible place to collect a "sticker" or similar token after each session.

Spelling Sheets x11

In each chapter, we select nine words, categorising them into three levels: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Children are encouraged to learn at least three words from each level that align with them. These spellings will also serve as the basis for a light-hearted game during one of our physical activity sessions. As an additional activity, children are asked to locate each word within the storybook, promoting not only spelling but also reading and comprehension skills. It's a dynamic way to engage with both language and movement!

Exercise Revision Sheets x11

Within each chapter, you'll find approximately 10 to 20 specific Pilates-inspired movements. These revision sheets act as handy reference guides, allowing children to practice the movements in their own free time, should they choose to do so.

Ownership Day Challenge Goal & Ribbons x11

This ties into the 'Pilatecise Champions concept, rewarding personal goals, positive habits, and self-esteem. On Ownership Day, children showcase their hard work and how they achieved their own personal goals set within each chapter. Here, we include resources such as tracking sheets, checklists, goal-setting sheets, and reward ribbons so you can easily set up and celebrate their progress.
